Cathay Pacific to shut down pilot base in Canada
Beleaguered Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific will close its Canada pilot base and could do the same to bases in Australia and New Zealand. That would lead to the loss of hundreds of positions.
It comes as the carrier reviews its overseas crewing operations to cut costs. It could also make changes to its European and US crew bases in the future.
Cathay wants to relocate pilots to Hong Kong on a voluntary basis but may face opposition from the HK government due to the high number of unemployed local pilots due to the closure of Cathay Dragon.
