Celebrity Cruises building all-suite ship for the Galapagos
Celebrity Cruises has teased details of a new 100-passenger ship being custom designed for the Galpagos Islands.
The Celebrity Flora will sail out of Baltra Island in the Galpagos from May 2019 with alternating seven-night inner and outer loop cruises.
The all-suite ship will feature an open-air viewing area, a stargazing platform and a boarding area accommodating up to three Zodiac boats to speed up time to shore.
The ship will have an advanced propulsion system and specially designed diesel engines to reduce emissions, the line said.
Notably, it will have an anchorless positioning system to protect the sea bed without losing its position.
"Celebrity Flora marks another example of our revolutionary ship design by allowing the destination and its environment to influence every decision we’ve made," said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises.
Celebrity Flora’s two Penthouse Suites come with separate indoor and outdoor living areas and are the largest in the Galapagos market, Celebrity says.
"Celebrity Flora will undoubtedly mark a very important milestone in the tourism development of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, offering high quality and sustainable tourism," said Enrique Ponce de Leon, Ecuador’s Minister of Tourism.
