China Airlines launching flights to LA secondary airport Ontario
China Airlines is adding flights to Los Angeles but it won’t be touching down at LAX this time.
CAL has chosen eastern LA airport Ontario International.
It is a big coup for the airport as CAL becomes the first Asia carrier to serve Ontario.
It will fly four times a week using Boeing 777 aircraft starting in spring 2018.
The airline’s decision to use Ontario stems from its easier access to Whittier, Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights, all which have substantial Chinese speaking communities.
CAL chairman Ho Nuan-hsuan said it may expand the service to daily during peak seasons if demand warrants it.
CAL first began flying to Los Angeles’ main airport fromTaoyuan more than 45 years ago.
It also serves US destinations San Francisco, New York, Hawaii and Guam.
