China, UK visitors boost Gold Coast arrivals
International visitors to the Gold Coast increased five percent in the 12 months from July 2009 to June 2010 but spending at just over $1 billion was down two percent, according to figures released today by Tourism Research Australia.
Gold Coast Tourism (GCT) chief Martin Winter said the positive gain in arrivals was made even more satisfying with the achievement of increases in visitors from Japan (up by 5%), China (up by 15%), and United Kingdom (up 18%) visitors.
These markets have seen increased focus from GCT marketing initiatives.
“Our ability to attract a five percent increase in international visitors, well above state and national trends, is a credit to the city’s wide popularity and the positive work of our tourism businesses as they are out there fighting for every tourist,†Winter said.
