Chinese tourists’ bus attacked in France
China lodged an official complaint with France after a busload of Chinese tourists were caught up in rioting in Marseille.
China state run TV claimed the bus was targeted by rioters.
Windows were smashed and some tourists sustained minor injuries.
The Consular Affairs Office of China confirmed a formal complaint was filed.
Violence has erupted in French cities for days following the shooting of a teenager.
The Consular office urged extra caution for Chinese citizens currently in France or planning to visit soon.
Chinese tour agencies have reported cancellations or rerouting travel to other European destinations.
Rioting across France has started to subside although tensions remain high in major cities including Marseilles.
“The windows of the bus were smashed and several people sustained minor injuries,” foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said.
“We remind Chinese citizens to pay close attention to the security situation, stay away from demonstrations and potential conflict areas,” the Chinese Consulate General in Marseille said.
