Continental increases transatlantic frequencies
Seven airports in the UK and Ireland are to get more flights to New York (Newark) this summer with increased frequency by Continental Airlines.
Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin and Shannon airports will all gain improved transatlantic links.
Belfast and Bristol will see flights rise from five a week to daily services. Departures from Edinburgh will rise from seven to 11 a week from May 4, while Glasgow will have 10 flights a week from May 6, up from seven.
Continental is to run double daily Boeing 757 flights from Manchester rather than a single daily service with a larger Boeing 777 from May 6. This will represent a 34% rise in seat capacity.
A second daily service from Dublin via Shannon will be introduced on May 4.
The schedules have been timed to connect at Newark with services throughout the US, Canada and Latin America. Continental operates more than 400 daily flights from the New York airport to 230 destinations in the Americas.
The airline’s UK and Ireland senior director Bob Schumacher said: “By increasing the frequency of our services and providing more seats, we will be able to offer transatlantic travellers greater choice and flexibility than ever before.
“In addition to our daily non-stop service to New York from Belfast and Bristol, our customers will be able to choose between two departures from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin, Shannon and Manchester and will benefit from an even greater range of quick and easy connecting flights at our New York hub.”
