Cruise industry helps typhoon relief effort
The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) is to donate $100,000 donation (€74.440) to the Red Cross for its Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the devastating and tragic storm in the Philippines, which is the home country of so many cruise line crew members," said CLIA CEO Christine Duffy.
Individual cruise lines around the world, including Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Corporation & plc, Crystal Cruises, and Paul Gauguin Cruises, have already contributed more than $2,237,500 to Philippines relief efforts.
Global cruise lines are also providing support to crew members affected by the typhoon, such as assistance contacting their families by phone or email, or arranging travel to return home if necessary.
They have set up relief funds for Filipino crew members with donations from crew members and guests, donated cruises to auctions for relief efforts, and set up contribution match programmes.
