Days of disruption cost Southwest Airlines USD75 million
Southwest Airlines said it took a $75 million hit from the recent days-long service meltdown. The airline cancelled more than 2,000 flights due to weather conditions and staffing shortages.
It will make service cuts for December to prevent any further disruptions. CEO Gary Kelly said it is ‘aggressively hiring’ to take on about 5,000 new workers.
Southwest reported a third-quarter profit of $446 million which includes federal aid which ended in September.
