Delhi takes action against airlines for failing to check Covid test results
The Delhi government has requested a police investigation of four airlines which allegedly failed to check PCR negative certificates of passengers flying from Maharashtra state to the capital.
The probe is targeting IndiGo, Vistara, SpiceJet and AirAsia India.
Airlines are required to check Covid negative certificates before allowing passengers to fly under the government’s Disaster Management Act.
Comments have been sought from the airlines.
A negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure is mandatory for passengers flying from Maharashtra to Delhi, otherwise they must undergo 14-day quarantine.
The Delhi government is taking action due to a surge in cases, especially in Maharashtra and Mumbai.
At the weekend Delhi registered 24,000 fresh Covid-19 cases which is the capital’s highest single-day total since the beginning of the pandemic.
