Dells going after convention market

Friday, 07 Nov, 2005 0

The Wisconsin Dells has long been known as the “waterpark capital of the world.” But in the future, the area may be better known for meetings and conventions.

Various projects are helping to transform the area, including the $150 million Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort now under construction.

The new facility will be able to accommodate conferences of up to 500 people.

One area the new facility hopes to capitalize on is the growing number of business people looking to bring families on company trips.

“The trend is increasing where companies are finding they can mix business with pleasure and turn a business trip into a family fun vacation,” Wilderness group sales manager told the Business Journal of Milwaukee.

The Wilderness is making water park admission part of their room rates.

The Chula Vista Theme resort has also added meeting space in recent years, and by 2007, it should have a 200,000 square feet of meeting space.

The Kalahari Resort now has the largest convention center in the Dells with 125,000  square feet.
