Delta Air Lines will offer a new daily service to Rio de Janeiro from New York JFK in time for the Christmas holiday season.

Delta plans to launch flights on December 21 subject to the usual regulatory approval and will fly 210-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft on the route.

"We listen to our customers and continuously strive to offer them increasingly convenient ways to travel, both for business and leisure," said Luciano Macagno, Delta’s Brazil director.

"It is exciting to have the opportunity to offer a daily direct flight from Rio de Janeiro to our second-largest international hub at New York-JFK. Delta’s continued route expansions demonstrate our commitment to the Brazilian market and the strength of our alliance with our Brazilian partner, GOL."

Delta’s strategic alliance with GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes expands onward travel options with 23 domestic connections from Rio for Delta passengers.

Opening of flight reservations for the route will be announced by Delta once it secures US Department of Transportation approval.
