Delta cuts flights as summer travel ramps up
Delta Air Lines is the latest carrier to trim its summer schedules.
Labor shortages and supply chain issues are affecting its ability to run full schedules effectively.
To avoid potential disruption Delta will slash 100 flights a day during the summer.
The cuts will last from July through August 7.
It will affect flights that ‘Delta frequently serves’ across the US and Latin America.
“Weather, vendor staffing, increased Covid case rates are contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some work groups” Delta said in a statement.
This weekend, over 39 million people are expected to travel for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
High demand this summer has seen average fares surge.
Other carriers including JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have cut schedules to minimize operational issues.
