Delta employee busted after USD300,000 airport heist
Police and FBI have arrested a Delta Air Lines ramp agent who they claim stole a bag of cash in a $300,000 airport heist.
New York JFK Airport ramp agent Quincy Thorp was arrested at his home and appeared before a federal court accused of swiping one of eight bags of cash that was due to be transported to Miami.
The eight bags of cash arrived in an armored car and it was Thorp’s job to scan them and load them on an aircraft.
Only seven were scanned and loaded they allege, and Thorp later called in sick.
That raised obvious suspicions by investigators who later viewed surveillance footage showing Thorp put only seven bags onto Delta Flight 1225 to Miami.
"The alleged actions of this employee are unacceptable and in no way reflect the professionalism and values we expect from Delta team members," Delta said in a statement.
"We are taking this situation very seriously and working directly with authorities on their investigation as well as conducting an internal investigation of our own."
The bag of cash still hasn’t been recovered, according to law enforcement sources, NBC New York reports.
