Direct Cuba charter flights coming to the Big Apple

Sunday, 16 Mar, 2015 0

Travel to Cuba is about to get a little easier for New Yorkers.

Beginning tomorrow March 17,  tour operator Cuba Travel Services will start the first regular scheduled direct charter flights from the Big Apple to Havana since the thawing of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The weekly flights will be operated by a Sun Country Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 carrying 145 passengers.

The flights, which are targeted primarily at New York area Cuban-Americans, cost $849 round-trip including taxes and medical insurance.

However general tourism to Cuba still remains off limits.

Travelers booked with Cuba Travel Services must provide details of travel, confirming they meet the current requirements to travel – for family visits, educational, religious and humanitarian activities.

Up until now, New York travelers had to head to Miami or Tampa to take charter flights to Cuba, or travel ‘under the radar’ from Canada.
