Dubai World Central names the day
Dubai’s second airport, Dubai World Central, will open its doors to passengers on October 27, when launch carriers nasair and Wizz Air start operations.
Saudi-based nasair plans to operate more than 50 flights per week between Dubai and a number of destinations in Saudi Arabia, while Wizz Air will provide non-stop services linking Dubai to Central and Eastern Europe.
Dubai World Central opened for cargo operations in June 2010.
The airport has one runway able to handle the A380, 64 remote aircraft stands and has capacity for up to seven million passengers per year.
Once fully completed, Dubai World Central is expected to become the world’s largest airport with five runways and an ultimate capacity of 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per year.
