EasyJet forced into flight emergency landing after pilot collapses
An EasyJet flight bound for Manchester has to make an emergency landing in Greece following the collapse of the pilot at the controls.
The co-pilot was able to land the plane but it caused some panic once it was announced that a request for medical assistance was required for the pilot.
“At first we thought this may be for a passenger after asking if anyone is medically trained,” a passenger told the Manchester Evening News.
Cabin crew then put up a screen to conceal the entrance into the cockpit.
“The ride began to get rough and scary as we approached the runway. We started to panic. I got upset once I felt how rocky and rough the landing was.”
The flight from Egypt landed at Athens airport where emergency vehicles were already waiting on the tarmac.
“EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY2252 from Hurghada to Manchester was diverted due to the Captain requiring medical assistance,” the airline said.
“The First Officer performed a routine landing in accordance with standard operating procedures.”
Passenger were accommodated overnight before continuing to Manchester in the morning.
The condition of the pilot hasn’t been disclosed.
