Emirates flight quarantined at New York after dozens fall ill
An Emirates plane was quarantined at New York’s JFK Airport over fears of a possible contagious outbreak.
Emergency services and CDC medical officers were called after about 100 of 521 people aboard the flight from Dubai complained of sickness, with fever-like symptoms.
Emirates said ‘about 10’ passengers were ill and the plane was held on the tarmac away from the terminal to ensure any possible contagion was contained.
Hazmat officers were also called to the scene.
Three passengers and seven crew members were taken to hospital, but it’s still unclear what triggered the ‘medical situation.’
All passengers and crew were individually checked by CDC officers before given the all-clear to deplane.
Among them was rapper Vanilla Ice who live tweeted the ‘crazy’ situation as it unfolded.
Another passenger Erin Sykes told CNN that several fellow passengers began feeling unwell before the flight took off.
"It was obvious a large number of people were ill well before takeoff. They should never jave been allowed to board."
