Emirates offers showers in the sky
Emirates has confirmed that it will be the first airline to offer showers in the sky after taking deliver of the first of its ‘super jumbos’, which come with two fully-fitted bathrooms in first class.
The Dubai-based airline has ordered 58 of the double-decker Airbus A380s at a total cost of €38bn. Its first A380 will be deployed on the Dubai to New York route, with the first flight leaving Dubai on Friday.
Emirates’ A380 will also boast an onboard lounge in business class for use by first and business class passengers, plus a social area and bar on the front of the upper deck for first class passengers only.
In economy, straight walls should create a greater sense of space and ‘mood lighting’ has been installed to combat the effects of jetlag.
Emirates has a further 57 A380s on order, which will eventually serve all the major cities in its network. Emirates is due to receive five ‘super jumbos’ by next March and the remaining 53 by June 2013.
The first five 489-seat, long range aircraft will be deployed on some of the carrier’s busiest routes, including London Heathrow from December 1.
It has also ordered two other versions of the jet including a three-class, 517-seat medium range and a 604-seat, two-class medium range.
