Entertaining companions rated best travellers

‘Fun and entertaining’ has been rated as the best trait in a travel companion, according to a new survey.

The quality was rated important by 64.5 percent of the respondents in a survey of 562 Australians by online travel company OctopusTravel.com, just ahead of ‘easy going’ (63.4 per cent) and ‘flexible’ (52.4 per cent).

Other highly rated qualities are ‘good conversation’ (50.5 percent), similar budgets (37.5 per cent) and an adventurous nature (20.5 percent).

The worst holiday companions are those who complain constantly, according to 64.1 percent of those surveyed.

Whingers are followed closely by ‘loud and obnoxious’, ‘bossy’  ‘boring’, ‘selfish’, and ‘moody’ travellers.

Actor Hugh Jackman topped a list of the famous Australians who most people would like to travel with (21.4 percent), just ahead of TV compere Rove McManus, while Prime Minister John Howard was rated the least desirable travelling partner.
