Euro Disney celebrates 10th birthday with launch of Disney Studios Park
Disneyland Park, Paris is celebrating its 10th birthday with the launch of a new adjacent theme park, Walt Disney Studios.
The new theme park, Walt Disney Studios, is dedicated to cinema animation and television, where visitors will be able to learn about the movie making process and witness first hand some of the action sequences seen in popular films.
The addition of the Studios Park means a change in EuroDisney’s name from ‘Disneyland Park’ to ‘Disneyland Resort’.
Jo Rzymowska (pictured), Disneyland Resort Paris managing director UK, Ireland and Nordic, explained to TravelMole that the new park would reposition Disneyland Paris as a multi-day holiday resort. She explained that Disneyland park was traditionally aimed 3-9 year olds, whereas the new Studios park will predominantly be aimed at a core audience of 8-15 year olds, making ‘Disneyland Resort’ a short-break destination for all the family.
Highlights of the new theme park include an `Animation Courtyard`, a tribute to the historical developments to Disney animation, a `Production Courtyard`, which will give visitors a look behind the scenes of film and television production, a `Stunt Show Spectacular`, a live stunt show featuring cars, motorbikes and jet skis, and ‘CinéMagique’, a movie theatre that takes visitors on a trip through the history of the silver screen and experience some of the best moments from 100 years of European and American cinema.
Commenting on the opening on Saturday of Walt Disney Studios, Jay Rasulo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Euro Disney, said that Disney hoped the new park would add an extra three to five million visitors a year.
Currently Disneyland Paris attracts 12 million visitors a year. This year saw the 100 millionth visitor to the Park since it opened in 1992. More than 80% of visitors come through the trade.
