Eurostar adds more trains to Paris
Eurostar has put on 20 extra trains during August to meet extra demand for seats to Paris.
Tickets for the additional services – four each weekend – went on sale today, with each of the additional 15,000 seats priced at £69 return.
The train operator saw a 6 per cent increase in demand during the first half of this year, pushing revenues up 18 per cent to £404 million.
Eurostar admitted the rise in demand was partly due to the ash crisis, but it claimed it also reflected an increase in the business market and a strengthening of business and leisure travel.
Chief executive Nicolas Petrovic said: “Over the last six months, we have delivered strong growth in both business and leisure bookings.
"As the economic environment has strengthened we have seen an uplift in the business market and an overall increase in the number of passengers travelling.
"Forward bookings are looking strong and with the increasing appetite for high speed rail travel in Europe, the trend looks set to continue.”
