Ex-Medhotels purchasing chief joins Apartments Abroad
Former Medhotels.com head of purchasing Craig Jay has joined Apartments Abroad to lead its contracting business.
He was responsible for Medhotels purchasing throughout the Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans, Italy, Malta, Middle East and Indian sub-continent.
Prior to that he was senior contracts manager at Thomas Cook, before becoming a hotels sales and marketing consultant. He began his contracting career at Flying Colours as a regional manager, serving Greece and Cyprus.
The appointment comes as Apartments Abroad steps up its direct contracting activity and his immediate responsibility will be to finalise the company’s new Eastern Mediterranean programme prior to conducting a review of the operator’s worldwide portfolio.
Apartments Abroad has just introduced a Cyprus portfolio as the first phase of expansion in the region and is set to add around another 100 properties on Corfu, Crete, Kos, Rhodes and Zante over the next few weeks.
Managing director Ian Thirlwall said the company intends to review and expand its core programmes, identify promising niche markets and develop new product to complement emerging low cost airline routes.
The company currently offers more than 23,000 properties in over 100 countries,
Jay said: “This is an incredibly competitive market where product and service quality are emerging as key differentiators and where I shall be expected to put my experience and contacts to good use.”
