Expedia and Travelocity seen as offering lowest price
How do consumers view the big tree online travel agencies: Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity?
When it comes to the critical price element, Expedia and Travelocity outperform Orbitz — at least in the public perception of lowest price.
That was among findings of an inaugural report called “Branding & Loyalty for Online Travel Agencies: Expedia vs. Travelocity and Orbitz.”
Other findings of the study:
• Travelocity differentiates itself by touting its e-mail notification when prices drop for specific cities and last minute discounts for travel within two weeks.
• Expedia emphasizes ease of use through convenient access to previously booked and current itineraries.
• Among Expedia and Travelocity “loyalists,” 40% are likely to switch to another site to make a purchase.
• Sixty percent remain loyal to both Travelocity and Expedia after experiencing competitive tasks on each sale.
“Expedia is able to maintain consistency among its loyal following,” the report concluded. “However, Travelocity is vulnerable.”
The report was by eVOC Insights, a customer experience consulting firm, and RelevantView, a technology provider of Web-based research.
