Expedia in billion dollar deal to buy Orbitz
Expedia plans to buy Orbitz Worldwide for $1.34 billion to squeeze out other online travel agents and widen its customer base.
It will add consumer travel brands such as CheapTickets and HotelClub to its portfolio as well as business-to-business websites such as Orbitz Partner Network.
Both Expedia and rival Priceline Group have been looking at acquisitions to stave off competition from companies like Google as well as airlines and hotel chains who are also selling all parts of a holiday.
Expedia bought Travelocity in January and Wotif Group in November.
