In a move which could see Australian passengers travelling much of the way to Europe or North America on an Indian carrier, Jet Airways begins its first flight between New Delhi and Toronto via Brussels today, September 5.

Utilising a state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER aircraft coupled with competitive tariffs and exemplary services standards, the carrier is “looking at a Europe fare ex Australia, said Kuala Lumpur-based, C. L. Chan, Vice President, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Jet Airways.

The launch of the daily Toronto service is part of a major route expansion that included the commencement of daily New Delhi/Brussels/New York flights last month using new Boeing 777 wide body aircraft.

All five 777s including the latest aircraft which came on line on September 3 operate in a three-class configuration highlighted with “the first airline suite in the sky”. Each of the eight First Class Suites feature an 83 in. bed, 23 in. flat screen monitor and dual sliding doors for complete privacy, said Mr Chan.

Such facilities along with “a new standard in business class travel” and an economy class with innovatively designed ergonomic seats and 200 hours of in-flight entertainment will feature on Jet Airways flights to new long haul destinations, he added.

Jet Airways intends to extend its international operations with planning for a daily Mumbai/Shanghai/San Francisco service and daily Mumbai/Hong Kong and daily New Delhi/Hong Kong flights in the final phases, he said.

The augmentation of the carrier’s international network follows on from the expansion of the codeshare agreement signed earlier this year with QANTAS.

This accord enables Jet Airways customers to travel on QANTAS flights between Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney and Singapore and then connect with timely onward Jet Airways services between Singapore and several Indian gateways.

The Indian carrier currently operates daily flights utilising refurbished 737-400s from Singapore to Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai. A new daily Singapore/Bangalore flight is planned to commence later this year.

Jet Privilege and QANTAS frequent flyer members can earn and redeem their points across both networks.
