Fogle and Moyles boost popularity of trekking holidays
The adventures of Ben Fogle, Bruce Parry and Chris Moyles have increased the popularity of trekking holidays this year, according to The Adventure Company.
Managing director Claire Wilson said their treks, documented on television, have captured the imagination of the public in the past 12 months.
“Another contributing factor to their rise in popularity is their simplistic nature which makes them relatively cheap holidays,†she added.
“Accommodation is basic; teahouses, tents or alpine huts, there are no additional fees for activities and many of the meals are straightforward. There is little temptation to dig into your wallets.â€
The specialist operator said Nepal is currently the most popular trekking destination, following years of recent political stability and cheaper flights.
One of the world’s classic treks, the Annapurna Circuit, has seen a 26% increase in bookings this year.
Thw Himalayan Explorer trip has also seen a 25% increase this year in bookings, while Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains have become one of The Adventure Company’s top five destinations based on the popularity of its trekking trips in recent years.
