Foreign Office issues new Sri Lanka warning
Tourists to Sri Lanka are being warned of possible outbreaks of violence in the run up to the presidential election on Saturday.
The Foreign Office (FCO) said there had already been sporadic incidents during the campaign.
"It is possible these will continue up to and beyond polling date," it said.
"You should take appropriate security precautions, follow local advice, comply with security instructions and avoid large gatherings, protests and rallies," added the FCO.
On Easter Sunday, 258 people – including British tourists – were killed in a spate of terror attacks on the Indian Ocean island, after which the Foreign Office advised against all non-essential travel to Sri Lanka.
The FCO lifted its travel ban in early June, but said that terror attacks were still ‘very likely’.
