Greg Mould, former chief executive of Cambridge United and a travel industry veteran, has been appointed chief executive of the new Association of Travel Agents.

Mould, who was Cambridgeshire-based Premier Travel managing director until last December , also spent a year leading non-league Cambridge United until last spring.

The ATA was formed in October 2012 with the sole purpose to campaign for a better outcome for travel agents from the on-going Package Travel Directive reform.

Founding Members are a mix of both high street and online agents, including The Travel Network Group (TTA and Worldchoice), Hays Travel, Travel Republic, Low Cost Holidays, On Holiday Group, Bookable Holidays, Alpha Rooms, On The Beach and Barrhead Travel.

The collective customer base of its membership is over 10 million, with a combined turnover in excess of £3 billion.

Kane Pirie of Travel Republic, one of the ATA’s founding members, said: "We are delighted that Greg has joined in this key role and his background on the High Street underlines that the ATA speaks for all agents, big and small, on and offline".

Mould said: "An active, vibrant trade association dedicated to representing travel agents is long overdue. The ATA is getting its message over in London and Brussels and momentum is building. When agents unite, people listen."
