Glitz returning to Hollywood
The plot at Hollywood and Vine these days is for the almost 19-square mile district in Los Angeles to get a $2 billion face lift.
Already, $1 billion has been spent to revitalize “run-down neighborhoods that had become hangouts for teenage runaways, tattoo parlors and tacky souvenir shops,” wrote the AP.
“The ultimate vision is to create an exciting urban entertainment center that meets people’s expectations of Hollywood,” said Leron Gubler of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
One centerpiece of the plan is a $400 million W Hotel.
The clean up of Hollywood, long known for its glitz, began in earnest in the early 1990s.
