The axe has fallen on tourist board South West Tourism after the government closed down its funding body the South West Regional Development Agency.
From next April the SWT will no longer exist, to the detriment of cities including Bath, Bristol, Bournemouth, Poole and the counties of Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire aand Gloucestershire.
But chairman Alistair Handyside said he would be working with the industry to work out how to go forward after April to ensure south west destinations are still promoted.
He said: “It is our absolute priority that we work in partnership with industry groups, destinations and key stakeholders to scope the future. There is still the need for leadership, focus and support for industry and stakeholders at local and sub regional at all levels.
"Equally, there is the need for a route for collaboration rather than competition, so that we can avoid duplication and gaps in delivery.”
