Green light for airport development
A new arrivals hall at Bournemouth Airport is due to start receiving passengers by next summer.
This follows approval of a planning application by the local council’s planning committee.
Airport managing director Rob Goldsmith said: “This will be an innovative structure, with 70% less CO2 emissions than the previous design and is, we believe, the first airport building of its type in the UK.
“It should be ready for use by summer 2011 and will provide a fitting welcome to visitors to the region.”
The design makes maximum possible use of solar gain, solar shading, daylight and natural ventilation, according to the airport.
These measures will reduce the need for mechanical and electrical installations which, in turn, will reduce the building’s energy requirements.
