Green tourism gold star businesses to be unveiled in Manchester
Last years happy Goldstar winners
Man’s impact on the natural world and how everyone has a role to play in preserving the environment is to be highlighted at Green Tourism conference
The event, the second of its kind hosted by the pioneering Green Tourism aims to connect representatives from some of the UK’s greenest businesses with like-minded colleagues and suppliers to further the cause for sustainability.
Once again Satish Kumar, the inspirational editor of Resurgence and Ecologist magazine, will be among the key speakers at this year’s big event being held at The Palace Hotel, Manchester.
There will also be a presentation from Ed Gillespie, a co-Founder of Futerra, the UK’s leading sustainability communications agency, on travel around the world without flying while Dr. Alice Bows-Larkin will address the importance of being urgent and the case for a radical approach to tackling climate change.
"Our conference in November 10th in Manchester will be a seminal moment in sustainable tourism," said Jon Proctor, Technical Director of Green Tourism.
"Not only do we celebrate the best in the industry but we also see the latest research on biodiversity loss and climate change and highlight the growing number of solutions to living more sustainably."
"It is a major challenge that we face and the Tourism Industry needs to change and ensure that those tourism properties which make the biggest savings or achieve the lowest emissions are rewarded by the consumer and the industry."
In addition to the keynote speakers delegates will also benefit from hearing first hand accounts of some of the innovative and practical measures being undertaken by businesses to improve sustainability.
There are also workshops planned on Energy & Water Savings, Low Impact Housekeeping and Financing Sustainable Tourism along with a revealing Question and Answer session chaired by Dr Harold Goodwin, Professor of Responsible Tourism at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Other attractions to the one day conference include a range of exhibitors such as Save Money Cut Carbon, Triodos Bank, Kimberly Clark, Ecover, Vegware, Fou Furnishings, Green Stationery Company, Nationwide EPC and Earth Renewable Solutions.
The day will culminate in the presentation of the GoldStar Awards 2014 which celebrates the very best Green Tourism businesses across the country.
Some 60 of the UK’s most environmentally sustainable businesses have been shortlisted for an award having been whittled down from more than 2,400 eligible entries. See: Green Star Shortlist unveiled:
