HAL completes full fleet installation of Starlink
Holland America Line has completed its fleetwide roll out of Starlink cruise ship Wi-Fi connectivity.
The final ship, Nieuw Amsterdam, was outfitted with the tech this month during drydock work.
The cruise line notes a surge in guest satisfaction with internet connectivity this year.
Starlink tech offers Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology for stable connections in remote areas.
Holland America Line first installed Starlink cruise ship Wi-Fi on Koningsdam in April 2023.
Connectivity has significantly improved across the fleet with each Starlink installation, the line says.
“The successful integration of Starlink represents a strategic move to embrace innovation and elevate connectivity,” said Gus Antorcha, HAL president.
HAL has also noted stronger bandwidth in key regions.
“We’ve heard from guests the new Starlink high-speed internet is better than they expected while cruising,” said Kathleen Erickson, VP of technology for HAL.
“For guests who are working remotely from our ships, it has been a game-changer.”
HAL says ships have seen improvement in connectivity in ocean crossings and sailings in the Amazon, Antarctica and Chile.
