The Tourism Society is looking for a new chief executive. The organisation aims to support the tourism industry by providing training and education and promoting sustainable tourism. It is saying goodbye to current director, Adrian Clark who is retiring. The new chief executive will report to a Board that includes representatives from travel agents, tourist boards and suppliers. The Society is looking for an all-rounder with skills including sales, PR, direct marketing, relationship management, commercial, financial, inter-personal and leadership. Due to a technical glitch with a btinternet.com email address, the Society has posted a message on its website urging applicants that may have used this address to check their application has been received. For more details go to www.tourismsociety.org. The Society is behind a series of topical debates concerning the industry. Next month it offers, “Is tourism the right word?” It hopes to attract industry professionals and commentators to discuss what tourism means, and how the definition of the word has changed. The event is organised in co operation with the Tourism Management Institute. It is on May 19 at the Bonnington in Bloomsbury hotel, central London. Tickets cost £12 for students, £17.50 for members and £25 for non-members. Contact Flo Powell on 020 7488 2789. A second event taking place on May 26 will deal with the art of travel writing.
