Hawaii volcano eruption threatens main highway
Lava flows from the Hawaii volcano eruption could soon cut off part of Hawaii’s Big Island.
Lava was only two miles from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway at the weekend.
It has been moving at 40 feet per hour, the US Geological Survey said.
Officials say the flow is too unpredictable to attempt to divert it away from the highway.
“There are many variables at play and both the direction and timing of flow advances are expected to change over periods of hours to days,” the agency said.
