Hawaiian Airlines touts ‘electric sea gliders’ for future island-hopping flights
Hawaiian Airlines wants to use ‘electric sea gliders’ for island-hopping commuter routes. Hawaiian is investing in Boston-based firm Regent which develops Wing in Ground Effect aircraft, (WIGs) .
The sea gliders are electric with eight propellers and hover just a few feet above the ocean at a speed of 180 miles per hour.
Regent’s seagliders are able to ‘fly’ in and out of existing harbors. Hawaiian will collaborate with Regent to develop a 100-passenger version of the aircraft.
