Heathrow expects record passenger traffic despite fire shutdown
London Heathrow Airport still expects to end the year with record passenger traffic despite a significant dip in numbers last month.
Traffic was down 7.5% due to the substation fire which closed the airport to flights.
Heathrow handled 6.2 million passengers last month.
It suffered a full closure for 10 hours and another day of delays as flight operations got back on track.
Nearly 300,000 passengers were disrupted.
For the year to date, passenger traffic is down 1.5% at 18.2 million.
Still, airport management expects to make this up and post record passenger traffic in 2025.
Heathrow Airport CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “We are still on track to see another record year in 2025 and colleagues are working hard preparing for a busy Easter and May Bank Holiday getaway.”
