Heathrow extends cap to end of October
Heathrow is extending the daily passenger cap for a few more weeks.
It says the 100,000 passenger cap will last through late October because of ongoing staff shortages.
The cap will include the busy school half-term holidays.
Heathrow has informed airlines, the cap will continue until 29 October.
It would ‘provide passengers with confidence ahead of their half-term getaways, ‘the airport said
Heathrow said it will be regularly reviewed and could be lifted earlier if the situationimproves.
“We want to remove the cap as soon as possible, but we can only do so when we are confident that everyone operating at the airport has the resources to deliver,” Heathrow chief commercial officer Ross Baker said.
Virgin Atlantic said: “We are disappointed that Heathrow Airport has already decided to extend the passenger capacity cap until the end of October, as additional resources come on line every week.”
“Airline customers have a right to expect their bookings will be honoured and we’re doing everything in our power to minimise disruption.”
“Thousands of people will now be anxious about whether their travel plans could be scuppered,” said Guy Hobbs, Editor of Which? Travel
“The aviation industry and the government need to ensure that this mess is sorted out as soon as possible.”
