‘IATA’ fraudsters target travel agents

Saturday, 13 Sep, 2013 0

Travel agents are being warned to be careful after reports of fraudulent messages using the IATA logo.

The messages, with forged IATA names and logos, are being sent to agents advising of unpaid invoices.

"This is the latest in a series of scam emails and should be disregarded," said ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer.

He advised agents to go to IATA’s website for advice on detecting fraudulent invoices.

IATA said fraudsters use an email address resembling IATA email addresses but using different host servers such as "gmail."

The name of the email sender is masked, which makes it appear as if it was sent from a valid IATA address.
