IHG introducing flagship InterContinental brand to Chiang Mai
InterContinental Hotels Group has inked a strategic partnership with a Thai real estate firm to introduce a number of new IHG branded hotels across Thailand.
The partnership with long term partner Asset World Corporate will see the development of more than 1,200 rooms at various locations.
Kicking it off is the 306-room InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping, which is currently being converted from the existing Imperial Mae Ping Hotel.
It is expected to open in 2021 and will fully complete its extension by 2022.
It is located near the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and Tha-Pae Gate.
It will feature six food and beverage outlets, and over 3,600 sqm of outdoor and indoor event space.
"With plans to double our portfolio in Thailand in the next three to five years, this signing today between IHG and AWC is another milestone," said Serena Lim, IHG’s vice president, development, South East Asia and Korea.
As part of the agreement, the companies are also targeting signings in Bangkok and Hua Hin.
IHG has 29 operating hotels across 6 brands and another 30 in the development pipeline.
