IHG signs Bintan Island dual brand hotel
InterContinental Hotels Group has inked a deal for a dual branded property on the Indonesian island of Bintan.
Bintan, just a short ferry ride south from Singapore, will welcome new builds Holiday Inn Resort Bintan Lagoi Beach and Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach.
In partnership with PT. Graha Agung Indahsentosa, the hotels are set to open in 2019.
It comprises the midscale 250-room Holiday Inn and Hotel Indigo set on a 9.2-hectare beachfront site.
"Indonesia is a key market for IHG; it is a diverse market, with a strong leisure and business pull, and the well-placed for easy travel between Australia, Southeast Asia and Singapore," said Rajit Sukumaran, chief development officer, IHG Asia Middle East and Africa.
"This presents an excellent opportunity for us to introduce our Holiday Inn and Hotel Indigo brands, providing a mix of brand offerings to cater to the influx in travellers and their various needs."
IHG sees big demand for the new hotels with international tourist arrivals to Lagoi Beach set to double from the current 320,000 visitors annually when work at Bintan International Airport is completed next year.
The hotels are also located just a 10-minute drive from the Bandar Bentan Telani ferry terminal, which connects with Singapore by fast ferry.
IHG currently operates 22 hotels across four brands in Indonesia – the InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express – and that is set to double with 23 hotels in the current development pipeline.
