IndiGo notches 1,500 flights a day milestone
Budget carrier IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to operate 1,500 flights per day.
It surpassed the milestone earlier this month, it said.
It comes almost one year after it passed 1,000 flights a day.
"We are pleased to be the first Indian airline to touch 1,500 daily departures, with one flight taking off every minute," IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said.
"Our mission is to promote trade, tourism and economic growth by increasing mobility and accessibility across the length and breadth of the country," he added.
The airline currently has a fleet of 249 planes and operates to 83 destinations including more than 20 international cities.
It will more than double fleet size in the coming years with 300 Airbus planes on order.
The 1,500 milestone was reached despite slowing expansion due in part to long term boardroom disagreements and engine performance issues.
The airline recently became a member of the international airline trade group IATA.
