Intrepid returns to Bali despite warnings
Intrepid Travel is resuming trips to Indonesia, despite continuing warnings from foreign offices around the world advising against non-essential travel to the region.
Intrepid suspended Indonesia operations when the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) issued a travel warning following the bombings in Kuta in October 2002.
The current advice from DFAT reads: “We continue to advise Australians to defer non-essential travel to Indonesia, including Bali. We continue to receive reports suggesting that terrorist elements in Indonesia are planning attacks.”
Intrepid operations manager, Tom Beadle says reports from Intrepid representatives in Bali are positive, and security is tighter than ever on the island.
In a statement the operator said: “Intrepid certainly takes the DFAT travel warnings seriously, and while we are recommencing our adventures to the region, despite the fact that the warnings remain in place, we want all our travellers to make an informed decision on whether to go or not. If people are still concerned, we continue to advise our travellers to delay their adventure to a later date.”
Intrepid trips to Bali and Lombok will resume in August 2003.
