is it worth doing the training

Sunday, 17 May, 2005 0

Hi I have just discovered your website and I think it is very informative, and I would like to air my frustration, not at you but through you as I see you have a lot of business’s associated from within the travel industry, in a recent article it was stated that there is not enough skilled people around, (in general not just within the travel industry), and the government were trying to encourage more people to get training. I had to laugh at this, as in 1998 I completed one year at adult education learning Travel & Tourism, I did a BTEC T&T course and an IATA airfares and ticketing course which run alongside it, I put everything into the course as this field of employment fascinates me, my assessor said it was a shame that the course was an NVQ and only a straight pass/fail, as if it had been a graded course, I would of received a distinction grade. I received my certificates and sent off my covering letters along with my new cv, only to get replies back saying because I have no experience they are not interested. I have not given up and through my job adviser, I am currently undertaking a home-study Galileo Reservations Course, which when completed will carry a certificate with 10 IATA points, I am 46 years old, I have used computers for over 20 years including Word, excel and Sage accounts, I have also completed a First Aid at work course. I do not know if it’s my age or because I have no actual hands on experience in the travel industry, why no one is willing to employ me. I apologise for burdening you with all this, but due to the connections your site has with various companies within the industry, I would really like their comments on this, if it was at all possible. Thank you again for your time, and I look forward to carrying on viewing your great site yours R. Stevenson
