Jamaica announces plans for mega resort
Jamaica could be about to get a new mega resort in the near future.
International hotel group, Lopesan wants to develop a 1,000-room luxury Jamaica resort.
Lopesan’s team, led by CEO Francisco Lopez, met up with Jamaica Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett during World Travel Market in London.
Lopesan has over 17,000 hotel rooms across Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.
Bartlett was joined at WTM by the Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), John Lynch and Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, Delano Seiveright.
Bartlett hailed the Lopesan Group’s investment plans and noted that development would generate over 2,500 direct and indirect jobs.
It comes as the Jamaica tourism sector prepares for the official opening of the recently renovated US$30 million Royalton White Sands resort in Trelawny next month.
It is also preparing for the openings of two major Jamaica resorts before next summer,
These are the first phase 1,000 rooms of the new Princess Resort in Hanover and the 753-room new RIU Palace Aquarelle resort in Trelawny.
These will create around 2,500 new jobs.
