Japan to ease border curbs to allow business travel
Japan will finally start lifting restrictions on inbound travel but leisure tourists will still be kept out for now.
According to local media, the government will this week announce the easing of travel restrictions to allow access for business travellers and students.
It is expected to take effect from next month.
Business travellers on short-term visits must be fully vaccinated and will still have to quarantine for three days upon arrival.
Currently, there is a 10-day mandatory quarantine.
Inbound foreign students would still have to self-quarantine for up to 14 days after arrival.
The government has not indicated it will ease border controls for tourists yet.
Total arrivals will still be capped at 3,500 a day.
The high Covid cases seen in Japan have now declined dramatically and about 70% population are now vaccinated.
