Jet2 turns into a major player in London Gatwick
Jet2 has marked a major milestone in its continued expansion, launching its inaugural flights from London Gatwick and officially establishing operations at the UK’s second-largest airport.
Perfectly timed for the Easter getaway period, the first full flight departed for Tenerife 10 days ago, signaling strong demand as holidaymakers headed to one of Europe’s most popular sunshine destinations. A second inaugural service to Alicante followed shortly after, underlining the airline and tour operator’s ambitious rollout at its newest base.
The arrival of Jet2 at London Gatwick represents a significant strategic investment, not only CEO Steve Heapy described the launch as a landmark moment for the company, highlighting the importance of finally bringing Jet2 to Gatwick. The airline continues to rank among the UK’s top performers in customer satisfaction.
Jet2’s inaugural summer program from London Gatwick is extensive, with 29 leisure destinations on sale across Europe and beyond. The network includes Alicante, Antalya, Burgas, Faro, Fuerteventura, Girona, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Heraklion, Kalamata, Kefalonia, Corfu, Kos, Lanzarote, Menorca (Mahon), Malaga, Malta, Naples, Palma de Mallorca, Paphos, Preveza/Lefkada, Pula, Reus, Rhodes, Skiathos, Tenerife South, Thessaloniki, Verona, and Zakynthos.
Frequencies vary across the season, with several routes ramping up to multiple weekly departures during peak summer months, reflecting strong forward bookings and demand for Mediterranean and Canary Islands hotspots.
To support this growth, Jet2 is basing six aircraft at Gatwick for Summer 2026, including five brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft. These next-generation jets deliver over 20% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat, alongside a significantly reduced noise footprint, reinforcing the company’s focus on more sustainable operations.
Release of winter 2026/27 flights program
Looking ahead, Jet2 has already responded to what it describes as a “phenomenal” market response by releasing flights and package holidays for Winter 2026/2027 and Summer 2027. The winter schedule from Gatwick will feature 23 destinations, including a mix of winter sun, ski, and Christmas market options, giving travelers year-round flexibility.
Customers departing from Gatwick also benefit from Jet2’s signature “VIP customer service,” supported by its Red Team of Customer Helpers, who are visible throughout the airport assisting passengers.
In London, Jet2 has its largest base at Stansted airport, serving 53 destinations. The carrier is also present in Luton, serving 17 destinations.
