John O’Neill’s long awaited review of tourism in New South Wales
In a recent function Matt Brown, NSW Minister for Tourism seemed to demonstrate a greater understanding for tourism in the battling state than his predecessor, who displayed a lamentable lack of it, with Minister Brown saying. “Let’s not look over our shoulders, but let’s look forward to a vibrant and dynamic future for tourism in New South Wales.”
He added, “We are clearly investing in tourism with $85m going into major events and the John O’Neill review to be released in mid to the end of October.”
We are also spending our money smarter and working with the trade to make that spend more effective and go further.” “We are also not waiting for the report, but getting on with the job.”
It appears that it is a good job Minister Brown is not waiting for the O’Neill report, which he told The Mole would be available at the end of September or early October, because The Mole can reveal exclusively this morning that the long awaited report, that will determine the future of the NSW tourism industry has been further delayed, not now being released for what was described by Alison Hill, media advisor and spokesperson for the NSW Premier Morris Iemma as “in the next couple of weeks.”
Ms Hill told The Mole this morning that the release of the report had been delayed by Mr O’Neill being overseas at Rugby World Cup in France.
Minister Brown told The Mole, “We are working with Tourism New South Wales and the industry on building on the organisation and the industry’s strengths and correcting those things we could.”
Les Cassar, newly appointed Chairman Tourism New South Wales and considered by the industry to be the leading element of the “new blood” that was needed to herald the required changes in government tourism in New South Wales and in its agency Tourism New South Wales told The Mole, he was looking forward to the report and was confident that it would have a significant impact.
