Lawsuit filed over cruise ship coronavirus ‘cover up’
A cruise passenger has filed a class action lawsuit against Carnival owned Costa Cruise Lines, accusing it of hiding a coronavirus infection and endangering the health of more than 2,000 fellow passengers.
Paul Turner filed the complaint in Florida alleging Costa allowed new passengers to embark after a passenger on a previous cruise was evacuated due to Covid-19 symptoms.
That was hidden from guests, and then only ordered guests to remain in their staterooms after another passenger displayed covid-19 symptoms.
It was later confirmed that 36 passengers were infected with Covid-19.
Turner’s suit claims the ship embarked more passengers at Fort Lauderdale ‘without adequately sanitizing the Costa Luminosa.’
The ship did not reject passengers ‘who potentially showed symptoms of the coronavirus.’
"During the boarding process Costa had non-medical professionals determine whether prospective passengers were medically fit to board based on a prospective passenger’s answers to whether they were sick and/or experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus," the lawsuit said.
After the outbreak became known, the ship was ‘denied entry to multiple different ports-of-call by the government of the respective countries.’
The suit described the Costa Luminosa as ‘a ticking coronavirus time bomb.’
