Legoland New York opening postponed until 2021
Legoland’s New York park opening has been pushed back until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Merlin Entertainments had planned to open the Goshen, NY theme park during the July 4 holiday.
According to Orange County tourism director Amanda Dana Merlin will likely open the $500 million park in April 2021.
"Legoland is not going anywhere. Once this is all over, there will be a surge of visitors," Dana said.
However Legoland spokesman Matt Besterman said no final decision has been made on the exact opening date.
When it does open, it will honor all annual passes or single-day tickets purchased.
It will also guarantee job offers already made to about 1,000 workers.
"Legoland is a major name brand that has rolled through bad economies in the past. Everybody is going to overcome this," said Orange County executive Steve Neuhaus.
"Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our team, and the communities we serve. We are in an unprecedented situation that has affected businesses worldwide," said Legoland New York Resort divisional director Stephanie Johnson.
